History of Johnstown Christian Preschool
On May 17, 1973 Session of The Johnstown Presbyterian Church approved a Christian Day school. The first day of school was in September of 1973. Led by Mrs. Ruth Pelkey and Mrs. Hazel Almendinger, the first teachers were Mrs. Marie Brown, Mrs. Jean Weaver, and Mrs. Barbara Luft. Many of these women are still very active in our church and preschool.
JCP was started with the hopes of ministering and teaching 15-20 children from Johnstown and the surrounding areas. Little did the first teachers know the impact they would have in the community for years and years to come.
Today, we have on average 100 students per school year. There are now 8 staff members who all have varying degrees of experience in early childhood education.
Through the years of building updates, staff changes, and changes in education, JCP has been a pillar in the community for early childhood education. We have remained rooted in our core values of leading with the perfect love of Christ as our foundation, guiding the children socially, emotionally and spiritually, and teaching through play, experimentation, and creativity.
